Luis Von Ahn Interview Questions
Some “behind-the-scenes” questions:
- what’s the prototyping and playtesting process for these games?
- What’s something you thought crowds could do, but they really stunk at?
- What academic and practioner-oriented fields do you draw on most when designing, building and testing a game? (Design? Psych? Game studies? CS?)
- How do you come up with the ideas.
- What were some other influences — this is a wierd direction for a CS person to go.

Grad student questions:
- if a starting PhD student knew that they wanted to do research in human computation topics, how could they best prepare themselves?
- How did it first occur to you that “human computation” was something that you could present as a new area of research?
- How long did it take you to develop the original idea of the ESP game, and to figure out how to convey it to a research audience? (Was there a period where nobody took you seriously? Did you ever change how you talked about the idea?)
- How can grad students build on your ideas without being eclipsed by your research shadow? (Dunno if I like this question.)
- (A standby:) Who’s your academic hero?
