Letter to advisors
Dear ________,
On behalf of the XRDS editorial team we would like to thank you for accepting our request to become a member of the advisory board. XRDS is ACM’s new flagship magazine for students. It is published quarterly, both in print and online for ACM student members. The publication was previously named Crossroads and has been running since 1994, edited and maintained by student volunteers. The publication just relaunched on May 24th after a complete design and content overhaul. We aim to publish articles written by top researchers and practitioners that are engaging and stimulating to students in Computer Science, IT and Engineering disciplines. Much of the content is solicited by invitation, although we will also consider high quality non-solicited pieces. XRDS also maintains a website for the magazine at http://xrds.acm.org.
The XRDS advisory board acts as an informal steering and feedback committee for the magazine. We see the function of the advisory board as follows:
- Maintaining active feedback and comments on magazine content. What are we doing well? What could be improved?
- Helping us guide forthcoming issue themes and feature articles towards topics which are of current importance in academia and industry
- Pointing the editorial team towards key people who could assist in contributing to future issues and the magazine in general.
As a member of the advisory board, it is up to you how you decide to contribute. You will receive a complimentary print copy of the magazine on which you can make comments via email. Additionally, the editorial team will arrange quarterly conference calls through Skype. We would love for you to join these calls and hear your thoughts. Occasionally, we may reach out to you individually based on your area of expertise to assist us in seeking authors or asking for advice.
